Hi Terri-
Thank you very much for providing this service.
On 4/13/22, I had a one-night stand with a stranger. I have no knowledge of her health status and (likely) won’t be able to get it. I had protected vaginal intercourse. I received unprotected oral sex. She had no apparent sores or other signs of infection.
On 4/27/22, I felt waves of paranoia over the encounter. I had no obvious signs of any infection. I had an STD check at LabCorp. Today, 5/3/22, the results for the HSV 2 IgG showed abnormal/high 1.11 and the HSV-2 IgG Supplemental Test read “abnormal”. I went to Quest today for another test.
Thoughts? I’m swimming in disinformation online. My last STD test was 4/2021ish and I tested negative. I had no other encounters with someone with H2 since my last test.

Terri-
My second test on 5/03 from Quest Diagnostics came back at 1.07 in the equivocal range. I’m not sure if stress affects results, but I had off-the-charts anxiety yesterday when I had my blood draw. The difference between 1.07 and 1.11 doesn’t appear material. I’m somewhat comforted that the score went into the equivocal range.
Please let me know your thoughts. I do note that, assuming my 4/13 encounter was my exposure, that my tests have probably been done too early and I should wait until 6/2022 for my confirmation test.
Thanks again.

One other factor: a few days before my first test on 4/26, I did my annual blood work. I got the results back yesterday after I got my 5/3 test results showing the 1.07 equivocal index reading. The annual blood work showed that the presence of Thyroglobulin Antibodies were highly abnormal. This occurred on my last blood test, although the numbers weren’t high. My doctor believes it might be Hashimoto’s (sp?) Disease or or some other autoimmune disease.

I think it is extremely likely that the LabCorp tests were errors but there is no way to know for certain as you are testing a bit early for accuracy. I think you could retest at Quest at 6 weeks out and if still in this low positive/equivocal range, plan on getting a western blot
However, it would be very unusual to get HSV 2 at a single protected sexual encounter. Try to keep that anxiety in check, given the very low chance that this happened and just test at appropriate intervals with the best test. it may end up being the western blot at 12 weeks out if you continue to get these low positive/equivocal results

Hi Terri-It was actually HSV2 from a single protected sexual encounter not HSV 1, but I think you meant HSV 2. Thank you.

There is essentially no difference between the two scores that you obtained – the cutoff is arbitrary. There is nothing really important about the difference at all.
