Had an igg test 5 years ago. Positive on both hsv 1 & 2. hsv2 number was 2.1. Western blot ordered 4 months later and was positive for HSV1, -but- negative for HSV2. I have no history of genital outbreaks, I only did these tests bc I’m single and I wanted to assure myself & partners, which there have been many, but only 3 incidents of unprotected intercourse in the last 5 years. This month, I took another IGG test since it’s been 5 years. IGG positive again on HSV1 & 2 (hsv2 was 3.70). Is there still a possibility or are there any odds in my favor that another ordered western blot might come back negative if I take it again?
Hmmmm. I think you are saying that you’ve had 3 incidents of unprotected intercourse since the negative western blot, is that correct? and now you are at 3.7? The odds are in your favor that this is a false positive, but that number is too high for me to feel comfortable telling you that you are fine without doing it again. I know it’s a hassle and expensive, but honestly, probably best to repeat for greater certainty.
