I recently took an IGG Inhibition test for HSV2 and tested Equivocal, 0.94. The thing is, this is my third time testing Equivocal. I tested in the Equivocal range twice several years ago. I’m so confused. Do I have herpes or not? The labs and doctors offer almost no help at all. I would really appreciate some guidance, as the “unknown” is disheartening.

I think you mean that you tested on the IgG test in the equivocal range. The Quest confirmatory test is the inhibition assay, but it cannot be performed if the IgG test is not positive. I’m confused about your situation, but three equivocal results likely do not represent a positive.

Does this help?
HSV 2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB 0.94
Aug/2022
index AT
Comments Index Interpretation
—– ————–
<0.90 Negative
0.90-1.09 Equivocal
>1.09 Positive
This assay utilizes recombinant type-specific antigens
to differentiate HSV-1 from HSV-2 infections. A
positive result cannot distinguish between recent and
past infection. If recent HSV infection is suspected
but the results are negative or equivocal, the assay
should be repeated in 4-6 weeks. The performance
characteristics of the assay have not been established
for pediatric populations, immunocompromised patients,
or neonatal screening.

I tested.94 most recently. Every time I’ve taken a HSV2 test it’s been within the equivocal range. I’m just trying to figure out what is going on. The test results are months, and even years apart. It’s so confusing

You likely have a non-specific protein in your blood, not herpes related, that is slightly tripping the test. If you want a final answer on whether you have herpes or not, the western blot is your answer. But with all of these equivocal, I seriously doubt that you are infected.

I’ve asked several doctors about the Western Blot, but none of them knew anything about it. How can I get a Western Blot done?

I can help you with this. You would need to make an appointment with me on this website and I can order it for you as part of our study. But with three equivocal results, I seriously doubt that you have HSV 2
