› Forums › Herpes Questions › 3 Tests over 6 Years for HSV 2
I have not had sexual contact in 6 years (2012):
(( All tests below were for IGG ))
In 2013 I tested negative for HSV 1 and 2 (listed value was less than 0.91)
In 2016 I tested negative for HSV 1 and positive for HSV 2 (listed value with 3.79)
This year I tested negative for HSV 1 and HSV 2 (listed value less than 0.91)
Any idea what this means? If my most recent HSV is negative, should I assume 2016 was a fluke?
I have never seemed to have any obvious symptoms, no sores on the mouth or genitals, but a past partner found out they had herpes (unsure if it was before or after me). Again, I don’t think I’ve ever had anything that had the characteristics of a herpes sore, and I never had a primary breakout or anything.
Thank you,
Normally I would say this is a fluke but I just had another person have this situation and her blot was positive after a negative, then a positive, then a negative IgG. I think I might consider a western blot for you.

I was convinced by the positive test for so long that I came to peace with idea of being an asymptomatic carrier. I would not be phased by a positive western blot and it would be helpful information to know with certainty.
I think I would be interested in having it done out of curiosity at this point, and to perhaps provide you with further research on IgG tests vs blots (false negatives/positives).
– What’s the total cost? There is an AnyLabTestNow relatively close to me.
– In theory, would your IgG antibody count have anything to do with how contagious someone is?
The cost for the consult and test itself is $314. There would be an additional expense for blood draw and shipping.
The index value of the IgG test says nothing at all about contagiousness.
