Hi Terri,
August 31 2022, I had protected sex with someone. Prior to that, I had 2 negative HSV 1 & 2 tests before sleeping with the person. He didn’t perform oral, I did. Around November 2022, I started to notice green discharge which I treated and a vaginal fissure after I had gone swimming. It was a vertical fissure. Not circular. I panicked and did an at home finger prick test November 30, 2022(12 weeks since exposure) which was negative. 1 week later, I did another on December 8th (13 weeks), also negative. I relaxed until I got an anal sore/fissure which I swabbed using 24/7 lab service. I dug as deeply in the cut. PCR NEGATIVE.. following that, I have swabbed negative 4 times whenever I’d get small cuts after my period.
I then decided to do my last home finger prick test at 20 weeks post exposure which remained negative.I rested the topic for a while even though it stayed at the back of my head when dating. I decided to purchase 1 more home finger prick test a day ago.. and I got a faint positive on the IGG line, the IGM section was negative. I immediately panicked and now I don’t know what to do. After testing negative at weeks 12,13,20 and 4 neg PCRs. I assumed I could move on. I know you warn against these home tests due to false positives as the negatives are more reliable when done at the right timing. I havent had sex in 1 year so this is from the same exposure. I ordered a labcorp test today and I am PETRIFIED I might test positive. even after negative IGGs and PCRS. Your opinion will be appreciated.
Below is the test ive tested negative with well past 20 weeks.. then randomly pos…https://www.stdrapidtestkits.com/herpes-2-rapid-test-kit

My test results from Labcorp came in.. negative at 43 weeks post exposure. I’ve decided to give this a rest.. these rapid tests kits sold online are not reliable and I’d like to tell anyone who might see this to just get a normal IGG with a lab or the Western Blot and save yourself the trouble with finger prick test kits.. I might move forward with a WB to finalize everything but for now I can breathe.

There are false positives on the at-home test but just as many with LabCorp and Quest – what you are describing as “normal” IgG tests. The CDC says now not to do the test at all without symptoms or a known exposure. Western blot is the gold standard and should be the one chosen if there are real concerns.
