Hi Terri,
I have a few questions I hope you could help me with.
1.How common is it to find someone who contracted HSV2 from condom protected sex?
2.Does number of partners affect your opinion even if they were all condom protected ?
3.Is oral HSV2 common?
4.Would oral HSV2 initial infection always be symptomatic?
5.Does HSV2 show up as a single lesion? Will that lesion rupture, turn into a sore and crust over or would it just disappear?
6.How long should a lesion last before it breaks open? 2-3 days?
7. If you can only test by blot and only have safe sex but have had multiple partners how often would you recommend testing if you’ve had no symptoms?
Thanks Terri!

1.How common is it to find someone who contracted HSV2 from condom protected sex?
It depends. Condoms reduce transmission from men to women by 96% and from women to men by 65% so it depends.2.Does number of partners affect your opinion even if they were all condom protected ?
Again, depends upon the gender. The more different partners, the more risk3.Is oral HSV2 common?
Definitely not4.Would oral HSV2 initial infection always be symptomatic?
No, I have seen it be symptomatic.5.Does HSV2 show up as a single lesion? Will that lesion rupture, turn into a sore and crust over or would it just disappear? Depends upon the location of the lesion. Lesions on the labia simply fill in, penis lesions crust and heal.
6.How long should a lesion last before it breaks open? 2-3 days? Usually shorter than that.
7. If you can only test by blot and only have safe sex but have had multiple partners how often would you recommend testing if you’ve had no symptoms?
maybe once a year? depends upon the frequency of partner change and the number of partners we are talking about.Terri

Hi Terri I hope that you are feeling better, please get plenty of rest!!!
I left out info for context that might be helpful.
MSM sex 12 one time partners over the last 4 years, 100% condom rolled to penis base usage without failure for both insertive and receptive intercourse, no identifiable lesions present on any partners and I have had no symptoms after sex. I am hyper vigilant for about 2 weeks after sex looking for anything that seems out of the ordinary.
With this additional context could you cover questions 1,3 and 7?
Any appreciable risk?

1.How common is it to find someone who contracted HSV2 from condom protected sex?
Very uncommon. If the sexual experience is two males and condoms are used fully during anal sex, I think the statistic of 96% reduction in transmission applies here as well3.Is oral HSV2 common?
The answer remains – not at all.7. If you can only test by blot and only have safe sex but have had multiple partners how often would you recommend testing if you’ve had no symptoms?
maybe once a year?
Since the multiple partners are all condom protected, I would think once and then not again unless there are visible symptoms that are concerning.Terri

Thanks for the follow up.
What would constitute concerning symptoms?
Would random shocking sensation on penis be a concern?
What would an outbreak on buttock appear like and what would be healing time?
Based on my sexual history since my last blot would it be unreasonable expect a negative hsv2 result on next my blot?

1. Sores in the genital area or anywhere in the boxer shorts area.
2. I don’t have an explanation for the random shocking sensation
3. Outbreaks on the buttocks would look like large water blisters that would break, ulcerate, scab and heal and possibly leave a scar.
4. I think a negative is likelyTerri
