Hi,
2 1/2 days after having somewhat vigorous unprotected sex I noticed a very small red kind of open abrasion on a raised hair follicle (the raised follicles are normal for me) on the shaft of my penis. There was no pain and it was very small same size as follicle but looked raw. I saw my general practitioner who said it did not look like hsv to him just an abrasion but he didn’t seem to be an expert. A day later it seems to be scabbing over and still no pain. Being that I have to wait 12 weeks for blood test is there anything I should watch for in the coming days to determine for certain if it’s really just an abrasion from friction? Thank you in advance for your reply -

In my experience True friction burns rarely happen. You could ask this woman to be tested or you could get tested yourself to see if you may have been previously infected and didn’t recognize it and certainly if anymore of these abrasions show up please get them swab tested as soon as possible. Was any swabbing done of this area by your own provider?

So no swab was done. The area is now pretty much clear. Is there a test I can do (blood etc) even though it’s gone to see if I have hsv? Being that it showed up in 2 days was painless scabbed and is now gone would you say that sounds like hsv? Thanks

If this does turn out to be hsv and I’ve never had an outbreak before and this was my first sexual encounter in 4 months is it more likely that she was infected or I had been previously? And if I had been previously what are the odds I infected her being that I saw this abrasion 2 days later? Also being that this was so mild (1 very small painless sore that was gone in 4 days) is this most likely a mild strain that will manifest in the same general way if it comes back? Thank you

You can do an IgG antibody test, yes, even if you have no symptoms at the time. But you need to allow enough time for antibody to be made, but if you were my in person patient, I would encourage you to get a baseline test now.
It isn’t possible to know at this time, if it is herpes, who gave what to whom. If you were infected and she was not, it is possible that you infected her – perhaps she would let you know if she becomes symptomatic?
If this IS herpes which we do not know at this time, and it was mild, it is likely that future recurrences will be mild as wellThis is your final post on this subscription. If you have more questions, feel free to renew
