I have had HSV 2 for over 20 years. I read something the other day about there being some risk of adults contracting acute meningitis with HSV 2. Is that only with primary outbreaks, or can there be a risk even years after the initial outbreak?
I have mostly seen it with primary outbreaks yes. And it is an aseptic meningitis, not a bacterial meningitis and maybe you are getting this confused with a much more serious problem encephalitis? The aseptic meningitis associated with primary herpes is characterized by a substantial headache and light sensitivity. This is a temporary condition that normally does not require intervention but rather resolves on its own with time.
Please let me know if you have other questions.
