Hi Terri,
I am a male who is HSV1 positive and HSV2 negative tested via Western blot. I have only had one sexual partner since my negative results. This consisted of me receiving oral sex, from another man with an unknown HSV status. I’m concerned because I do not have a way to contact this person, and the room was a dimly lit so I could not with 100% certainty see if there lesions around the mouth.
Was this a risk for HSV2?
Have you seen, or is there any documented acquisition of HSV2 in this manner?
Can I with 99% certainty provided by the Western Blot assume that I am still HSV2 negative after this incident?
I am not concerned about HSV1 as you wish I have previously stated that if you are already positive for HSV one you are unlikely to contracted anywhere else.
The risk for receiving unprotected oral sex is HSV 1, which you already have. I see no reason to be concerned about acquiring HSV 2 in this situation.
Terri
So just for clarification, receipt of unprotected oral sex is at no point a risk for HSV-2?
I never say never, but the odds are just incredibly incredibly low.
Terri
Thanks Terri.
So in short(while theoretically possible) HSV2 is Not a risk and I shouldn’t be concerned about acquiring it from receipt of oral sex, and since I have HSV1 Acquiring herpes is not a risk for me when receiving oral?
As long as I am not performing oral sex or engaging in intercourse I am not at risk for HSV2 ?
Thanks for the help!
I would agree with both statements. I cannot say that there is zero risk of acquiring HSV 1 genitally, but if there is a risk it is incredibly low.
People really do want 100% certainty about these things, but we just can’t give it. But you live without 100% certainty in your life all the time and you must with this kind of thing as well.
