Hi Terri,
I had one more question.
I’ve been on Valtrex 1g 2x daily since June 1st. I’m still having urinary issues (difficulty going and burning), so I continued 2x daily past the prescribed 10 days. My Dr. isn’t returning calls, so I need some help knowing how much I should take and for how long.
I don’t have any lesions, only had one and it went away 10 days after they appeared. Will Valtrex help with urethritis?
Thanks so much.
So how many total days have you taken the medication? I think the Valtrex would help with the urinary symptoms (I don’t think you have urethritis, by the way, you have urinary hesitancy and likely lesions in the urethra which is slightly different). Are you still having burning or mostly the hesitancy? I think if the burning is gone then all that is left is to let your nerve regain function and I’m not clear that the Valtrex is going to help too much with that at this point.

Today would be day 18 of Valtrex. Isue is mostly hesitancy. I did had a blood tinged discharge and burning, but both of those are subsiding. The urethra area is still tender but much improved and the flow of urine is returning to normal. During OB I had to push to just get a little out and I ended up being catheterized for 3 days about 10 days ago.
If there is a recurrance, will there be lesions in the urethra again? Ouch.
So, should I discontinue Valtrex? Switch to 1x daily?
Thanks again!!!!
The hesitancy will resolve over time and I’m not 100% clear that more Valtex would help at this point, probably something you should talk with your doctor about though it can certainly not do any harm. With recurrences, you could have urethral lesions but most often, not.
