Hi Terri,
I am a 29-year-old female. About 3 months ago I was talking to a man that has GHSV-2 for about 15 years. We had about 4 sexual encounters, none of which involved actual penetrative sex. The first encounter involved dry humping, one of us had underwear on at all times but areas of our skin in that area could have touched, I recall him having an outbreak 3 days after that encounter. The second, third, and fourth encounters happened in the span of 3 days. We did not have sex, but I was giving him a hand job and might have touched my own genitals after. I was being careful to avoid doing so but worry I might accidently have done it a few times. I did not notice any outbreak on him during this time but worried what if I somehow contracted something.
About 2 months after this exposure, I had a flat red spot on my inner labia. It was not really painful or anything, just a slight discomfort. I never got tested but the doctors I asked did not think it looked anything like herpes.
Should I be worried? Do I have risk here? Freaking out and want to get this out my mind and put it past me :(.
Thank you!

The kind of contact that you had does not cause me any worry for you contracting HSV. None. You did a great job of practicing very safe sexual contact. Hands in this context are not a method of transmission.

Hi Terri,
Thank you for your response. A few more things to update you on…
-June 15 I had that initial red spot I mentioned on my labia minora. It went away in about a week.
-This week, on August 17, I had an abrasion in the same spot as last time. It was one single spot. It came and went away within 24-48 hours. Healed pretty fast.
Both “abrasions” happened at the time of my period. Wondering if it could be herpes related or maybe due to pads/tampons and more thorough wiping during period.
Another question, if he ejaculated i
on my upper inner leg is that a cause for concern for transmission?Thank you!

Without a swab test, it isn’t possible to know if your abrasions were HSV, but the didn’t last long, that’s for sure.
Ejaculation on your leg is NOT a risk for transmission as the skin of the leg is too thick to allow virus to penetrate.Terri

Terri, some questions…
1. If it healed within 3 days, is it safe to say that is pointing towards not herpes?
2. There was only one ulcer/abrasion. Is that not typical of herpes?
3. My first red spot and second ulcer/abrasion did not look similar at all in terms of how they healed. Would herpes recurrences heal in the same way?
4. Wouldn’t my first outbreak be in the first month if I was symptomatic?
Thanks!

That’s correct2. There was only one ulcer/abrasion. Is that not typical of herpes?
Well, herpes can present with a single ulcer, so that’s not definitive3. My first red spot and second ulcer/abrasion did not look similar at all in terms of how they healed. Would herpes recurrences heal in the same way?
Usually, yes, if they are in the same type of area.4. Wouldn’t my first outbreak be in the first month if I was symptomatic?
