Hello, I am a mother of two and have been married for over 10 years. 2020 was a rough year and my husband and I separated. Since I was 16 years old I tested positive for hsv 1 igg (5.60). My parents have always had cold sores and I was curious if I had the virus as well at that time. In 2020 when we separated I slept with someone during a 7 month period. We had unprotected sex throughout and he said he was clean. I finally told him I needed proof or for him to get tested. We had oral sex as well. He tested and had the igg done for both hsv 1 and 2 and both came back negative. During this time we split up here and there but never had partners in between. At least not on my part and he says he didn’t either. We went our separate ways and then I had a one night stand in March of 2021. Still traumatizes me to this day because although it was protected sex he said he was clean as well. But you can never trust people bc they may not know. Two days later I notice a small pimple on my lower inner thigh. I kept messing with it and I popped it and white pus came out. No pain to be honest when urinating. Just have to pee small amounts and some irritation. But otherwise I was okay. I just kept thinking the worst. I kept asking him if I should worry and he said no. Well I went and got tested at 4 weeks, 8, then 12 weeks, 1 year. Hsv type 1 igg positive. Hsv type 2 igg negative for every single test. I initially thought it was herpes because of the single bump because I was so anxious and took valtrex my mom had from her cold sores. Idk if it messed up initial testing if anything laid dormant but if it’s been a year and I still tested negative for type 2 igg it’s safe it say it’s accurate? If the first guy gave me oral and he tested negative for both am I okay? I’ve never had blisters or anything other than a pimple here and there. But for it to show up two days after sex with the second guy? I also got hpv from him as well. I’ve never had a cold sore in my life.

My husband and I got back together end of 2021 and had my second baby. Everything went well. I got tested again and negative for hsv 2 igg. He also got tested for both through letsgetchecked and they both came back negative for hsv 1 and 2 igg. I am worried I got genital from the first guy giving me oral even though he tested negative for herpes. What if he kissed someone and she gave him oral herpes then he passed it to me down there? Idk I am just thinking the worst. With the second guy I put myself at risk because it was a one night stand. And I did get a pimple. It went away a few days later. White pus came out when I popped it. I never had issues during my pregnancy just vaginitis here and there, which I have always suffered from. If I did have genital is it normal that I never passed it on to my husband because he tested negative for both types?

First of all, you don’t get HSV 2 from receiving oral sex. Also, herpes lesions have clear fluid in them, not white pus. I think you should trust your negative IgG test, enjoy your bab and your husband and move on from this worry.

Thank you for your response. After reading in this forum my biggest fear was having my hsv 2 negative tests be negative due to taking Valtrex here and there. Not as a suppression but here and there. Is that possible after a year and a half?
Last negative hsv 2 igg tests was in October 2022. Roughly a year and a half since last exposure.

Even though I have always tested positive for hsv 1 since I was 15 and never got a cold sore or outbreak of any sort. If I did have hsv 1 genital, is it odd that i never passed it on to my husband after 10 years of being together?

No, intermittent use of Valtrex should not cause a false negative.
HSV 1 genital infection is rarely shed so transmission is rare.Terri
