Hi Terri,
I’m a female. I had protected sex but I did not have protected sex on oral. This happened the first week of March 19th & I had sex twice during the week. On Monday, March 26th, I developed a high fever with legs pain. I felt better the next day. I went to the Doctor on Wednesday, & he did not see any lesions. I took Gonorrhea & Chlymadia test, & I came out negative. Then on Thursday, I developed a single lesion on my anus. I felt mild pain when I walked. So, I went back to see a doctor again, & he did not think it was herpes. He prescribed me medicine that I forgot what’s called but it is a clear gel. Then, on Friday, March 30th, the lesions spread all over, & it did not hurt me, just the anus. I went back to the doctor again & she prescribed me Valtrex that I took for 10 days. She did not swab me b/c I did not have the money to pay for a lab testing. I was in a study abroad in London. I live in the USA. What I did notice is that I was putting the clear gel on top of the lesions for three days while I was taking the Valtrex, & then, it all of sudden disappeared without scab which is weird. I went back to the U.S on April 30th, & had a pap test, I am negative all STDS including HPV. Then, on May 7th, I took HSV-2 Elisa/anti-body testing at Kaiser, & it came back negative. I believe this was taken at 5 or 6 weeks later. I told the nurse if it was accurate? He said yes. Then, I contacted the person who I had sex with came back negative on HSV 1 & 2. He took it on May 11th. I felt relieved for couple minutes but I realized it was not enough for me to move on. I have not got any symptoms or lesions since March 30th which I am grateful for. Is it still possible that I may have HSV-2?
I emailed my Dr. to order the Western Blot at Kaiser. Would it be accurate if I took the test next week since I took the Valtrex in 10 days? I took the Valtrex on March 30th. What is the % on the Western Blot at 12 weeks?Thank you & I look forward to hearing from you.

I don’t believe that 10 days of Valtrex will impact a western blot. And I would be shocked if Kaiser agreed to do the blot and paid for it – you’ll have to let me know. Everyone I’ve spoken with said Kaiser refused to do the blot. The blot at 12 weeks out from exposure is fine – that’s is what they recommend – 12 weeks. I believe it is still possible that you have either HSV 1 or 2. The IgG test misses 305 of HSV 1 infections. If your HSV 1 test on the blot is positive, without a lesion orally, I would be tempted to think that you might have HSV 1 genitally.
