So a friend of mine got tested for hsv 1 and 2 igg on 10/26/21 HSV1 IGG was 54.80 HSV2 Igg was 1.08. And HSV2 Igg supplemental test was positive. On 1/19/21 tested again and HSV1 was >5.00 and HSV2 was 1.23. ( used a different lab the 2nd time)Still no outbreaks or lesions no symptoms at all. Only symptom was a mouth canker sore on roof of mouth around 8/17/21. It was just a red circle no raised bumps no white or clear appearance. Had dentist look at it and they said nothing is wrong. Had new relationship and sex on 7/18/21 -10/16/21 was last encounter with person. Used protection each time but also did oral sex on the person and received oral. Did have a cold sore years ago as a teen. But It was small on lip happened just once. Should my friend do further testing? Are they indeed HSV2 positive For hsv2 should they be concerned will western blot help in this situation? My friend is scared and stressed out. And what are the chances of getting hsv2 in the mouth from oral? Also they took a pcr swab test on the vaginal area on 10/28/21 and it was negative for hsv2 and HSV1. Please help my friend is very stressed. Just wanted to know what you think of this Thank you so much!
The chances of getting HSV 2 orally from giving oral sex is very small but not impossible.
Your friend definitely needs a western blot for clarity. A false positive is likely and the supplemental test is plagued with false positives – I have more than 50 of them in my own practice.
