My dear friend was recently informed that a sexual partner she’d had contact with about a month ago had tested positive for Gonorrhea. She was so worried she ran out and had herself tested for all STD’s possible, including HSV-2, despite advice against it by her PCP. Of all the tests, the IgG test for HSV-2 was the only one that came back positive, although she’s had no symptoms of genital herpes at all. Her values were >1.130. The PCP says this is conclusive. In your opinion is this a high positive result? Is there a chance it could be a false positive? (About a year ago my friend did test positive for antibodies for Epstein-Barr virus during a separate blood exam and her doctor estimated she’d had it and never knew about 4 years ago. She does have quite a weak immune system, and has lymphocytosis as well.)

My friend is quite anxious and frightened due to the stigma of HSV-2. Is it worth being retested or getting the Western Blot test? She did have several short term relationships last year, but has never had symptoms of HSV-1 or 2—no fevers, blisters, shooting pains, etc. (FWIW she did have Covid and later the vaccine.) Are those IgG numbers high, low, or conclusive in your opinion? Just wondering if she should resign herself or if its worth it to get a second opinion. I have no clue.

Hi Terri! Bumping this question…my friend is so depressed….I would love to hear your POV on the situation

Whether ^1.130 is a high positive for the IgG blood test?
      Thank you

1.13 is an incredibly low positive and there is about a 90% or better chance that this is a false positive. She needs a western blot. She can order the kit from UW and work with her provider to get this or I can work with her as well. She should NEVER accept his result as a true positive on it’s own.
