Hi,
I’ve only just recently discovered the research surrounding false positive tests. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago now with HSV1 and 2. I was shocked at this diagnosis as I’d only ever had one sexual partner when I was diagnosed, who as far as I know was negative (though I guess he could have lied). I’d never had symptoms and to this day still haven’t, though I know it’s common to go without symptoms and still have it.
My IgG indices are as follows (all via Quest Diagnostics):
2019: 2.02 HSV2, 1.61 HSV1
2020: 1.5 HSV2, 1.86 HSV1
2021: 4.03 HSV2, 1.25 HSV1
2022: 2.72 HSV2, <.90 HSV1 (negative for HSV1 after 3 years of testing positive)
Given my sexual history, lack of symptoms, and low index numbers for four years now, am I correct in thinking it’s likely I am a false positive? Do you think it’d be worth it to attempt getting a Western Blot? Any guidance would be appreciated.
With those index values, and your lack of symptoms over four years, I would most definitely recommend that you obtain a western blot. No question.

Thanks for your response. I guess what I’m really asking here is how likely do you think it is that I’m a false positive? Is it even still worth it to get the additional test or can I just assume I don’t have it?
With an index value at some point of 4.03 you cannot just assume that yo don’t have it, no.
