Hi,
Since I am young, I have had cold sores, but I had not had one in decades until 2017 when I was in a relationship with a HSV-1 and -2 positive man. I had cold sores only that one time. I have not had any more cold sores since. So, I do know I have HSV-1.
This relationship ended in early 2019. I have not been with any other man since. I have not had any outbreaks or any kind of symptoms on my lips or my genital area.
When I had my annual health checkup last year, my gynecologist suggested a full STIs test, and my life changed forever.
In March 2020 the results were the following. I am copying exactly from the lab report:
Herpes II Ab.(IgG): 4.02
HSV-2 Inhibition (24): HSV2 IgG Screening Index 2.98
% Inhibition 93.2
I took the test again last month with a different doctor. These are the results:
Herpes Simplex Virus 1 IgG: 30.10 Index (no surprise here)
Herpes Simplex Virus 2 IgG: 3.65 Index
I did ask each doctor what the numbers mean; one said it means nothing, simply that you are positive. The other told me no one really knows. But… they are different for each person, so they must mean something.
I am doing online dating and I have been rejected three times because of my condition.
I guess I want real confirmation that I do have HSV-2.
As I mentioned earlier. I have NEVER had any outbreaks or itching or tingling. Nothing.
Would having the Western Blot test be a waste of time and/or wishful thinking?
Thank you!
I have seen false positive in the range of your index values, certainly. If you have had no symptoms, I think doing the western blot is appropriate. After all, this is a lifelong condition and you want to get the diagnosis right, correct?
Terri
Thank you for the fast reply, Terri. I appreciate it.
Yes, I do want confirmation. I do not want to continue being rejected for a misdiagnosis, or accept reality and accept my condition.
I will be contacting you shortly to set up an evisit.
Thank you.
