› Forums › Herpes Questions › Asymptomatic for GHSV1? Next steps?
Hi Terry, on July 15th I had an encounter with my partner who performed oral sex on me. At the time, I was unaware that he had a cold sore that was scabbed over on his lip, but by then it was too late. My partner swears that he never actually put his lip near me, but I am still concerned that his saliva had the virus. He also said that he only performed for 10-15 seconds which wasn’t enough time which I think is BS.
I don’t believe I have oral HSV, but who knows. I have had my fair share of hookups so I may have already been exposed. It has been two weeks to date and I don’t have any symptoms. Although I’m not a doctor, I have heard from sources that GHSV1 almost always causes a primary outbreak within two weeks of an encounter. What do you think my next steps should be?
Should I wait 10 more weeks and take a blood test? Or do you think I should wait until he gets tested? Or should I just forget about it? I am just hesitant about testing because it may bring unnecessary stress and anxiety.
Also, even though I am asymptomatic at the moment, is there anything that I should be doing to prevent an outbreak from occurring? I am reading that certain foods and stress are triggers.
Thank you for your time
I’m trying to imagine how someone gives oral sex to someone else without their lips coming into some kind of contact with their genitals – would be tough!
You could get a baseline IgG test now. About 50% of the population has HSV 1 so the chances of you already having it are high. If you are negative, you could repeat the test at 12 weeks
If you’ve not had an outbreak in two weeks, it is very unlikely that you have a brand new infection. There is nothing that you can do or not eat that will change your situation now.
I do think the time is really short to have contracted HSV if his statement of the duration is correct.
Terri
