Hello,
I was wondering if you could confirm any information or any research on there being a higher possibility of hsv2 asymptomatic shedding during menstruation/follicular phase in a woman’s cycle? I was diagnosed in December of last year but believe I’ve had it for longer since my IGG was around 13. I have not had any symptoms or outbreaks that I’ve noticed but I am trying to be cautious about the shedding phase of the virus because I don’t know when I’m having an outbreak. How many days out of the year would someone infected for a little over a year be shedding the virus? Also is it a certainty that you will transmit the virus during that shedding day if you engaged in unprotected intercourse?
There is no data that I am aware of regarding shedding and menstrual periods. People who have symptoms of HSV 2 shed virus on about 20 out of 100 days, those without symptoms but infected with HSV 2 shed virus on about 10 out of 100 days. Those are averages, no distinction based on duration of infection. It is not certain that you will transmit if shedding but more likely for sure.

Okay so would it be fair to say that given the 10% transmission rate of asymptomatic hsv2 positive persons and the rarity of transmissions of hsv2 to ohsv2 if my partner and I both are sick, him being negative me being hsv2 positive it’s more than likely we are both just sick? We both are experiencing a sore throat but no other cold/flu like symptoms and he’s starting to feel better already it’s been 8 days no lesions or cold sores and like I said the sore throat is clearing up
So the 10% transmission rate is male to female transmission? Female to male transmission with longer term couples is about 4%. Sounds like you may both have some upper respiratory stuff going on here.

Does the likely hood increase if it was his first time performing oral sex on me?
No, that’s not necessarily true.
