      Hello,
I have had hsv2 for 15 years. My daughter (2nd child, first girl) is 11 months old. I am always so very careful during an outbreak but suddenly had a thought that worried me. I had a shower last night, all ok. This morning I gave my daughter a bath. Afterwards, I realized I felt some prodromal symptoms and am now worried about giving my daughter a bath (shower runs into the bath) where I showered the previous night. Is this a risk?
Also, my daughter has this habit of taking off her diaper and running around. Probably not so unusual, but I am concerned that she ran into the bathroom after I used it and then sat down on the floor before I could reach her. I try to keep the bathroom really clean but if she sat herself down and accidentally landed on errant pubic hair or something that I missed while cleaning, is this a risk to her if I had a current outbreak and a hair somehow stayed on her private area and I didn’t notice?
I am always so aware of my kids and this condition, and may sound irrational, but random thoughts do enter my head.
      Thank you.

I understand that you have these thoughts running through your head. The key is to ask the question about transmission and then believe my answer. Nothing you have described above presents any risk whatsoever to your child. None. Period. It takes more virus than you might imagine to infect someone – I think you are vastly overestimating it’s contagiousness.

You’re a careful mom and that’s good, but you are not going to infect your child with your genital herpes.
