Hello I am a 27yo female tested positive for hsv1 and equivocal for hsv2 then got a value of 1.00 for hsv2 through labcorp I read on reddit that biotin and vitamin d may skew results I take them everyday is that the same for the western blot?I also have gotten an mmr vax before the blood draw for the westernblot will this affect anything? Also my boyfriend with a very low immune system is scared to catch it. I never had an out break of either hsv 1 and 2 and would hate to give it to him. Should I consider supplemental antivirals when we are together ? Our relationship os long distance currently.

Also my lab results for hsv 1 igg came back as a 42 what does this mean? And my 3 year old daughter at 55.30. Does the higher the number mean current out break? I mever recall ever having an out break and for her she had the tiniest pimple looking bump on her lip that eventually disappated with no lesion scar or open blister so I was surpised both of us were + and me being + for hsv2 threw me for a loop.

Hello Terri just want to make sure you see my question. Also I guess my Dr. ran HSV 1 and 2 DNA on me when I went to get my blood draw for the western blot which is being proccessed now. And they both came back negative. I am very happy about. Does this mean I am negative for both or nrgative for an outbreak?

Also would you reccommend suppresive therapy when I see my boyfriend if I am postive? and how long before I see him should I take it?

I am stunned that someone did an antibody test on a 3 year old. We know that half of the positive in children are false positives though this is a high positive. Igg tests for herpes are NOT indicated for children. Biotin nor vitamin D will skew western blot results. And there is no evidence that vitamin D would impact testing. People who have high HSV 1 index values may well have have false positive HSV 2 test results. The vaccine should not impact herpes testing either.

Taking antivirals may well reduce transmission because it reduces viral shedding but we don’t have any data on that with HSV 1 in an asymptomatic person.

Hi so I just recieved my wb test hsv1 + and hsv2 indeterminate.

Sexual history 1 unprotected partner in the past year never and that was in april. Its been a year since . My boyfriend now is negative for both. I dont understand why I keep getting interminate with every test i tale including the wb . I have never had any type of out break any where so I am really confused why western blot is not negative or positive . Of I was positive I should have seroconverted by now if i was exposes in april of last year and my ogg index was 1.00 not even 1.1 . Just looming for some clarity please this is giving me high anxiety

The UW guideline that they have shared with me is that if it has been a year with no sex and someone gets an indeterminate, they should consider it a negative. That appears to be you. You have a non-specific antibody protein that is tripping the IgG test and is showing up in the blot. it is very likely nothing to do with herpes.
