Hello – so nice of you to provide this service!
In March of 2022 I was tested for HSV twice via IgG and came up borderline positive twice within one week at approximately 2.68 (Labcorp) and 2.86 (Quest). The only woman I’d been with between tests (Maru) was kind enough to go get tested but said it was negative – which didn’t make sense since if I WAS positive since I’d tested clearly negative (< 0.9 IgG via Quest) before her. That said, Maru didn’t want to share the actual test copy.
I followed up a few weeks later with the Western Blot via the University of Washington, which came back “not detected” for the Quant PCR results (both HSV 1 and HSV 2), but “not calculated” for the DNA copies per milliliter. My Urologist at the time, which is where I had the blood drawn, said that he thought the original was a false positive and told me not to worry about it. I wasn’t totally comfortable with that so I’ve used protection with my girlfriend (Lisa) ever since that point to be safe. Of course, this was a little sad but we were concerned.
In any case, I recently split with Lisa and want to get a more solid sense of whether I have HSV2 or not, and how to explain it to a new partner when I (hopefully) meet the right one next year.
Was my urologist correct that this was a false positive? I’m concerned that the results were “not calculated” for the DNA copies and wonder if the test was performed correctly? I know the doctor had to have me come back to redo them because his phlebotomist wasn’t familiar with the special procedure for shipping the first time.
Should I repeat some or all of these tests? I live in Florida and do have access to AnyLabTestNow.com sites. If I should repeat these tests, can I work with you to understand the results?
Unfortunately, your urologist appears to have ordered the wrong test. it looks like he ordered a blood PCR test for HSV which should not be done as HSV is not in blood. This is NOT the western blot. YOu could ask him to do it with the right test if you wish. Or I can work with you. But you do not have a blot here.
Terri
