Hi Terri
Thank you for all you do, I am certainly looking for your insight, as my anxiety levels are extremely high.
I am a female in my early 40’s and have always engaged in protected sex until testing verified my partners std status. I have never had a std.
I started a new relationship in July 2014. We both had std testing prior to engaging in sexual activity which occurred in August 2014 ( unprotected).
Like many posters before me I was shocked to discover that a standard std panel does not include HSV 1 & 2.My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship hence we were intimate for 2 days ( several times during these 2 days at the end of August 2014).
I have had cold sores since I was a young child ( HSV 1) and get the typical symptoms of itching, tingling, blisters and scab. The out break lasts between 7-10 days.
3 Months after our initial encounter on Dec 1, 2014 I got the weirdest rash on the inside of my leg which I took a photo at that time and have attached herein It didn’t get better so i had a diagnosis of Ringworm on Jan 22, 2015 which my physician prescribed anti fungal/ steroid cream. The cream has been effective however there is still traces almost 3 months after with another small patch below it, which surfaced today.
My partner and I got tested for IGG Elisa ( herp select) since our last std panel didn’t include it.
His results for HSV 1 ( neg) HSV 2 positive with IGG score of 5.00, I am waiting for my results as I went in for testing today.
Questions
1) Do you think the rash 3 months after possible exposure is a herpes rash? Or is it aligned with my doctor’s diagnosis of ringworm?
2) 2nd small patch of rash on inside of my thigh that popped up today does this look like a herpes type of rash?
( both rashes do not have blisters, do not itch or are painful)
3) what are the chances of contracting HSV 2 from this encounter? ( end of aug 2014, 2 days)
4) does my HSV 1 (positive) diagnosis offer any protection from HSV2? I read people who have HSV 1 have 40% less chance of contracting HSV 2, is this myth or factual? I realize some people have both HSV 1 & HSV 2, I was wondering what my odds were.I suppose I am creating more anxiety than necessary but I’m hoping you can qualm my nerves as I wait for test results.
Thank you

It’s hard to say about the rash but a herpes lesion would not last 3 months. However, herpes scarring could last that long. I hope you will continue to try to download the picture. I have asked our webmaster to try to allow for larger pictures files in the meanwhile as I am certain you aren’t the only one troubled by this restriction.
If the rash that came up today is not painful and does not itch and does not have blisters, what does it look like? Can you get a picture of that?
The chances of getting herpes in the two day sexual encounter depend totally on if he was shedding at that time. Honestly, I don’t think your first herpes outbreak would be on your thigh and it would have shown up most likely within 2-10 days of the encounter. Of course you might have HSV 2 yourself, separate from him and then recurrences could be on your thigh. Sure wish I could see that picture!
It is totally inaccurate that people who have HSV 1 infection have a reduced risk of getting HSV 2. The only circumstance in which that would be true, and we aren’t even sure of this, is the person who has HSV 1 genitally MAY have less risk of acquiring HSV 2 genitally due to cellular immune response minimal protection in that area.I don’t think you are overreacting at all. Your partner most certainly has HSV 2 and you are at risk of acquiring it, if your test is negative for HSV 2. However, if your exposure is only two days, regardless of the frequency of sex, it seems somewhat unlikely that you would have acquired this with only a thigh symptom.

This is today’s round patch. ( smaller patch)
I am trying to include the rash from 3 months ago. ( and I tried to include as it was healing)
Is there any way to increase file size?? I have tried everything to upload? It’s not allowing me upload, as I’m getting an error message.

There seems to be technical issues as my credit card was charged twice.

Due to your request, we have increased the file size to 6 mbs from 512 kbs. Sorry for any frustration this limitation may have caused.

Your card was charged twice because you signed up twice. We can reverse the 2nd charge if you are clear that you don’t want to ask more than three questions. The program looks at all thee attempts at posting picture and then posting pictures all as posts. I can see they are not all questions so I am overriding this but please try to group your questions into a single post. You have two question posts remaining.
Neither of these pictures looks like herpes to me but pictures are limited because I can’t really see depth and of course can’t feel the surface of the skin, which does help me assess lesions. The fact that steroids made the rash better not worse is suggestive also that it was not herpes.

Hi Terri
I would like to post my final question, mostly for other individuals ( in a panic state) reading your informative website.
My IGG test results from Quest labs came in: HSV 1 > 5.00 ( No surprise here) I have suffered cold sores since I was a child
HSV 2 NEGATIVE ( it’s less then 0.90)Since I have not engaged in any sexual activities for the last 6 months ( oral, kissing, penetrative sex) I will take these test results and move on with my life. It has been a very valuable learning experience.
To everyone who is reading these threads, and feels in limbo waiting for their test results, I hope my thread will ease some of your anxieties.
Terri you are an incredible person. You have dedicated your life in helping others. Thank you so much for everything you do.
