Hi Terri,
Last night I felt a dry, slightly scaly patch of skin on my inner thigh. Upon inspection, I saw there was a bump close to the dry patch. I believe I had felt that bump the other day, and it felt somewhat squishy and moveable then, but I didn’t look as there was no pain, and I assumed it was most likely a regular pimple/boil. So after looking at it last night for the first time, I picked at the bump as there was dead skin on it (worried this was a healing herpetic lesion) and that caused it to bleed. The dry patch itself is not really red, slightly darker than my skin colour, but has very, very small bumps on it. They are so small it’s hard to tell if they are watery, they look like regular, random skin bumps, but having them in the one place is concerning me. No pain or itching for either the bump or dry patch. I have taken photos, and in the pictures the dry patch is visible, with only some of the small bumps showing on camera.
I have never (to my knowledge) had any lesions or outbreaks. I haven’t had an Igg test before, do you think what I have described warrants getting that done? I do have a history of fearing I have herpes (OCD).
Thanks so much!

My sister looked at it, and could barely see the bumps on the dry patch, and said they look like normal skins bumps that she also gets in some places on her body. Also, my last sexual encounter was 4 months ago.

I’m sorry, I can’t help you know
for certain if this might be herpes but it certainly doesn’t sound like it. Normally, a first outbreak would appear in the genital area where infection happened rather than on the thigh. Most people get bumps on the thigh from time to time. If you have other bumps that you’re concerned about, I would suggest that you have them swab tested for greater clarity

Thanks for your response, Terri.
I just have one more question: the small, tan-ish dry patch that I noticed almost a month ago is still there on my inner thigh, it feels rough to touch. Does this sound like this could be the result of a slow healing blister, or HSV related in general? I don’t logically think so, as it has been there for almost a month, and may have been there longer before I noticed it, but just wanted to get your opinion. The appearance of it also hasn’t seemed to change much either. Thanks again.

This sounds absolutely nothing like a healing herpes lesion, no it sounds nothing like herpes in general. Also herpes would not last one month and the appearance will change fairly quickly over time. I don’t think you need to worry about this dry patch at all.
