› Forums › Herpes Questions › Can a high IgG still test negative with WB ?
Hello Terri , I am so glad that I came across you and your website
my question is , I never showed any signs or symptoms of HSV I had recently taken a test for HSV1 and HSV2, my IgG titer came back positive for HSV1 with a level of 62.20 ! and my HSV2 results where negative first of all is this correct ? second if it is I read on your website that numbers that where high like this , showed negative when taking the western blot ?. I am thinking of doing the western blot for extra piece of mind , according to your expertise should I still go alone with it ?
thank you !
Terri I am still waiting for your response if you have a miniute please let me know how to proceed
So an index value of 62 indicates a long standing HSV 1 infection. And your HSV 2 is negative, which is good.
I don’t understand the question about going alone with it?
You want the blot to be extra sure that you don’t have HSV 2, is that correct?
Terri
I wanted to test with the western blot to finalize testing results and if it is accurate , I remember reading on your site that someone had a positive titer of 13 and still showed negative on the western blot , I know that the IgG tests can be highly inconclusive for some , does the western blot also pick up HSV1 or is it only HSV2 ? or both , my husband has tested negative for both and we have been together for 8 years , there is no way that he hasnt gotten it from me yet if I have a high antibody count , I would like to know if I should still go along with the Western Blot just for piece of mind .
The blot looks for antibody to both HSV 1 and HSV 2.
I would bet one million dollars that you have HSV 1. The IgG test for HSV 1 misses 30% of infections, compared to the IgG test so it is possible that your husband is infected and the test missed it
