› Forums › Herpes Questions › Can genital HSV1 be transmitted to someone already with oral hsv1?
Hello, we are a new couple and I have genital hsv1, never had a recurrence in almost 20 years. My girlfriend already has oral Hsv1. She gets recurrences once in a while. She worried about getting infected to the genitals even if she already has herpes1 to the mouth. Is it possible she gets it to the genitals and me having it on the mouth? So, once you are already infected with one herpes type, can it change locations if the other partner has the same type too in another place? Thanks for the answer.
???
First of all, if you’ve had HSV 1 for 20 years, the likelihood of you shedding at all is so low.
Second, once you have HSV 1 in one location, it is extremely unlikely you would get it in a new location. You are correct.
