My 2 yr old came home from sitters with blister in her mouth and on her right thumb. I took her to doctors and they said hand foot and mouth disease. Ok. I tested positive for hsv1 years ago. Negative hsv2 while pregnant with her. Married never changed partners. About a week after my daughter was sick, I got some blisters on my hands and feet. Itchy, burny sensation. Dr. Said I got hand foot mouth. Fast forward 2 weeks, my daughter got another blister on thumb and mine came back on my hand. I rubbed lotion on my feet and a coyple days later got a couple tiby bumps on my toes. I immediately went back to dr. As I’m so afraid of herpes and it looked similar to that. My dr. Thought I was crazy and I requested testing. Got my results back and hsv1 igg >7.0 and hsv2 > 8.0. I was shocked! I never had hsv2 before! Is it possible to have it on your hands? I was in direct care with my daughter. Now I am so scared that she has it and I have it 🙁 no idea where this came from!

HSV 2 is almost always a genital infection. It is not transmissible to to your child. Are you certain that you were negative during your pregnancy for HSV 2? Most OB providers do not test for herpes during pregnancy (though I think they should). You should check the records for that information. If you were tested during your pregnancy and you were negative, then your husband has to have HSV 2 and recently transmitted it to you.
I definitely do not think you have HSV 2 on your hands and feet or that you you transmitted it to your daughter in any way.
did anyone do any swab testing of your blisters to determine for certain what you had going on?

Hi,
I requested the records and haven’t heard. I have itching burning in my hands and feet with light blsters. Armpit glands swollen. I guess the question I was asking was if I do have genital hsv1 or 2 down there… can it go through nerves and come out in your hands and feet? I am so upset about this. I do not get sores in my mouth at all ever. If I possibly had hsv2 in my mouth, could I have then accidentally transfered it to my daughter via kisses sharing food utensils and drinks?

Also, when she had her blister on her thumb and in her mouth… I washed my hands so much my knuckles were cracked! Her dr. Did not think it was herpetic whitlow but said she couldn’t guarantee it. She doesn’t want to test her as she is so young and she said they wouldn’t put her on antiviral meds anyways.

All I can think of is when I brush her teeth at night, I use my finger and push up her upper lip to get her top gums. Possibly, I touched a sore and didn’t know it and didn’t wash my hands??? Freaking out!!!

Blondie, this is not what happened here! HSV 2 orally is rare, and when people have it, they rarely shed virus – 3 days out of a year.
If you have blisters on your hands and feet, you should have them swab tested to see what they are. I seriously doubt that are caused by herpes! Your doctor thinks foot and mouth disease, right? Why do you think this is not correct?Terri

It has been 6 wks since her first blister in her mouth. She has had more since in her mouth and 3 blisters that returns on her thumb. Her armpit glands are swollen and mine are as well. Not throat glands. I’m not sure how to send a pic of her thumb to you.

None of this looks anything like herpes to me. Normally I wouldn’t look at pictures, but I know you are very scared about your child so I did. But I don’t want to be trying to diagnose what is going on here with you and your child so please rely on your own health care providers for that, OK?

I’m quite sure your dermatologist will tell you that these do not look like herpes nor should you worry about having transmitted HSV 2 to your child.
Best
