› Forums › Herpes Questions › Can I acquire HSV 2 by kissing someone with cold sores on their lips. If so,
Recently tested positive for HSV 2 IgG (5.76); apparently that means I have genital herpes.
No, normally recurrent cold sores are caused by HSV 1, not HSV 2.
And yes, an index value of 5.76 is a very solid positive. And it does mean that, with a very high degree of certainty, you have genital herpes.
I’m not sure about your title question, but you are not infectious orally, assuming you have only genital infection.
Can I answer anything else for you?
Terri
