I am a female who recently tested positive for hsv 1 (3.69) and hsv 2 (2.5) I have literally never in my life had any symptoms and I have been with one partner for over 4 years. I have tested in the past just as routine and have always been negative. My partner and I were separated for a few months and he had one other partner, but tested negative for both. He tested 3 months after that sexual encounter. I am really confused and shocked at my results and wondering how in the world I could be testing positive. I already have a western blot on the way but I am just wondering what are the chances that I am false positive considering I’ve never had any symptoms and my partner is negative??
And just to add some context, we had our first sexual encounter about a month ago and I just did two igg tests. One from my doctor which gave me no index values which then prompted me to get another test through std check via Labcorp.
I think there is certainly a chance that you have a false positive. Getting the western blot is the best idea.

Thank you Terri. What would cause a false positive in this instance given I’ve always tested negative and my partner tested negative as well? I am so confused because I’ve never even had a cold sore or a bump or anything. I received the WB but I was wondering is it too soon to take it? I am approaching 5 weeks since we first had intercourse. I would like to take it to calm my anxiety/nerves but if it’s too soon I guess it doesn’t make sense to.
If your partner tested 3 months out from his encounter with another person, and is negative, then I think it is OK for you to go ahead and do the blot now. Do you mean it has been 5 weeks since you last had sex with him after you got back together? I think you are good to do the blot now.
