Hello, I contacted Hsv1 genital (was swabbed) over 6 years ago. I had an initial breakout of two painful spots and I have never had an outbreak since the initial. I wondered if my risk of having one again now 6 years later is low and what my chances are of spreading genital to genital? Thank you so much I am age 51 if that makes any difference as well. I had read an article the shedding goes down significantly after the first year and wondered if by 6 it goes down even further.
Thank you again
Stacey
The chance of a recurrence at this point is extremely low. We know that once someone has been infected with HSV one generally for at least two years, they shed on about four days out of the year. it is likely that you’re shedding even less at this point.
