Hi, I have oral hsv. I havent had a cold sore in years. I have lately been paranoid about transmitting it to my toddler as I understand you can still shed…
I was changing her diaper today and had some saliva coming out of my mouth I rubbed it off with my forearm. My 15 month old was wiggling around and in effort to grab her I lifted her up with same forearm a few seconds/ minute or 2 later. Without realizing I used this forearm to wipe my mouth/ saliva.
I’m terrified I could have given her hsv genitally.
Please tell me what risk this is. I’ll note thay I have a breakout in that area (pimple not blister ) under my lip.
I’m not entirely sure if the same part of my forearm touched her genitals but I’m so concerned bc it was the same forearm.
Thank you
Hi just bumping this up.. thank you
Your experience with your child presents zero risk of herpes transmission. Please don’t worry about this. This is not how herpes is transmitted and your child is going to be just fine. I believe that you are over estimating the ability of herpes infections to be transmitted and it’s understandable that you would worry if you thought that was possible to be transmitted in this way. But it is not.

Thank you Terri. I went to her pediatrician for something unrelated today and ped said it could be transferred that way. So just checking that your answer stands firm even if my arm was still wet with saliva?
Thank you. Also, I have another question about an unrelated scenario. Should I continue here or post a new thread? I will pay of course. Thx
I do not agree with your pediatrician that this presents any real risk of transmission.
go ahead and ask your further questions
