I had multiple sexual contact – unprotected oral and one unprotected vaginal from middle of May till Middle of June with the same girl. She assured my of her STI status (probably never had HSV test…we are from different countries btw.)
Single Bump filled with fluid developed on top of my palate (roof of my mouth) – I had about 4 recurrences of it till now. I felt healthy, no flue symptoms etc.
First unprotected vaginal sex for about 30s
I got flu like symptoms. After couple days my penis hurt and became red especially around top of my penis – no bumps, no blisters etc. I got from urologist 10 days of doxycycline and anti-yeast cream which didn’t help. STI tests (hsv not included) and bacterial and yeast swabs were negative. During next days bladder and bowl pain and urethritis showed up.
After visiting around 10 dermatologists and urologists without any effect I took blood test. Hsv 1/2 IGG<0.5 NEG )unfortunately no chance to get type specific in my country – I am from EU) IGM<1.57 POS (I know that you and CDC don’t recommend it due to cross reactive with ebv,cmv and many false positive). I took 7 days round of acyclovir 3x800mg. Pain level went down from 8/10 to 3/10. The girl just told that according to her doc she is negative but I have no clue how they figured out this – no chance to get more informations.
HSV 1/2 IGG 0.11 IGM 0.43
HSV 1/2 IGG 0.13
From this day I started to take acyclovir in different configuration 2-4x400mg again due to pain “around” penis and urethritis pain – no able to live normal. The top of my penis is still red especially after pee. I have visited almost 20 doctors till now nobody can help me.
I am not even taking blood test because of acyclovir.
What is your opinion on this case? What do you recommend? Could it be some kind of nerve damage (postherpetic neuralgia…?)and chronic urethritis due to late diagnosis? I am looking for help everywhere…

I’m not clear about what you jumped to herpes as the cause of your symptoms but I disagree. Nothing you have described here sounds like herpes to me. And it’s good that even the combined test is negative and continues to be negative. How many days of you taken valacyclovir?

3-4 days after exposure in June I had flue like symptoms, shaft of my penis was burning and itching me. It last for 3 weeks. Then I started to have urethritis symptoms with “water” discharge, tip of my penis was red after pee and my bladder and area of my penis started to hurt me. Symptoms improved after taking acyclovir (no Valtrex in my country) 800mg 3 times a day for 7 days but I took it almost 2 months after first symptoms. Then after 3 weeks it all started again, so I am taking acyclovir 400mg 2 times per day since the middle of September but my penis never healed 100%, I am still getting nerve pain on my penis and tip of my penis is getting red especially after friction for example wearing jeans, some days are worse then the others. I read in your book that many times herpes are atypical with no blisters and it can cause urethritis. Plus I have had 4 times since June this pimple with water fluid in my mouth – it comes everytime in the exactly same spot.
Thank you for your response.

Burning and itching of the penis without sores is far more likely to be fungal caused. Watery discharge three weeks later is too long from the encounter for usual new herpes. Herpes does not hurt in the bladder. Herpes does not make your penis red. Yes, herpes can cause urethritis but that happens right away with new infection and it is not continuous.
I think you should get the pimple in your mouth swab tested the next time it shows up, please, for herpes, just to be certain what you are looking at here.

I am back here because it’s still the same since October.
I have stopped taking acyclovir at the end of November. I took it maybe couple times during December and once in January because it seems like it doesn’t help me anymore. My neurologist diagnosed me with neuralgia and prescribed me pregablin after which I got better. He told me that I have it due to some viral infection. Unfortunately I haven’t had any blister on roof on my mouth since October and the only one sore (it was looking like missing skin) but without any blister on my penis was in June so I was unable to take any swab. I figured out that my skin on penis could be different due to using steroid creams in June which were prescribed by the urologist and then again dermatologist.
I am still negative on IGG test my ex got positive on HSV1 igg but I am unable to tell you which location because she is acting very strange… All the time I have burning skin on head of my penis and nerve pain around it and my groins burn as well plus discomfort in pelvic area, some days are better some worse. Sometimes I feel like I am almost normal and then everything with nerve pain, burning and red penis especially top of it return for couple days. When my symptoms return my face gets really itchy.
By the way I took during this time tons of antibiotics and antifungal pills and creams and nothing helped me and it seems that I improved after taking acyclovir at the beginning. I would like just to add that my igg ebv and cmv are positive.l I am now taking ozone therapy because I am looking for help from everywhere.
I have to add that after all I am struggling with depression because I am not able to live with this pain everyday it’s affecting every area of my life.
I would like to get WB and from time to time I am in Chicago I saw that anylabtest is there. When do you think would be the best time to take it? Do you have any advice for me? Do you think that ozone can have any influence on my blood test?

a positive HSV 1 IgG will not tell her the location of her infection, only that she is positive.
The best time to take the western blot is when 3 months have passed since your contact with anyone for intercourse. it would be good if you could get this done while in Chicago – we can have a video conference about it first and I’ll get you the materials you need to get the test. You will need one serum separator tube and normally UW ships that to people but they will not ship out of the country.
I seriously doubt that you have HSV 2, given your negative antibody tests but it sounds like you need this option off the table once and for all. Would you agree? I doubt that you have HSV 1 genitally causing all these issues.
