AUGUST 2022 -No condom. He performed oral sex on me/heavy kissing/intercourse. A week later I got a bad vaginal infection/itching/discharge/pain/stinging rash and so uncomfortable -AND a bad sore throat- I treated it as a yeast infection at home but when there was no improvement went to a clinic who gave me antibiotics for chlamydia/ gonorhea proactively- STD tests all came back negative. Recovered forgot about it. JAN 2023- new partner and did full STD testing INCLUDING HSV2- neg. After sex AGAIN got a bad infection and vaginal irritation symptoms. I also had a red sore on my tongue for 2-3 days but not a lesion or ulcer. The tongue resolved – vaginal irritation continues. Dr examined and said it looked red and inflamed -did STD panel and vag bacteria culture. STD’s/yeast negative — but culture came back with heavy growth of enterococcus in vagina and urine. This did not clear w/ 3 rounds of antibiotics- vaginal symptoms continued -Macrobid finally cleared it at the end of APRIL! MAY 8 2023 -sex with a new partner- first STD/ HSV2- neg. DAY AFTER sex the vaginal symptoms returned! Discomfort inflamed stinging dry feeling, painful irritated vag opening and inner labia- Again NO obvious sores or lesions — 6 days later I got a sore on my tongue so I went back Dr for vaginal exam & cultured tongue for herpes. Vaginal exam there were no obvious lesions -just looked red and inflamed.Dr gave me VALTREX and said to take 3 pills a day for 4 days. Tongue healed-(CULTURE NEGATIVE) but NO improvement in the vaginal symptoms. I kept taking Valtrex for 3 weeks NO IMPROVEMENT. June 5th 2023 I went back and Dr looked at the vagina with the scope -again saw no obvious lesions ulcers or sores BUT bacteria culture came back positive for Heavy Growth of Enterococcus AND Klebsiella. Dr doesnt think its herpes at this point because its not going away and no lesions and valtrex did nothing. Is this atypical presentation of recurring GHSV1 that is triggered by sex and causing bacteria?

Ive never had issues like this before but can’t seem to find any articles or information that would suggest bacteria would cause this much vaginal skin irritation at the vaginal opening and inner labia — concerned that maybe this is hsv1 triggered by sex- with just non stop outbreaks presenting as a raw red inflamed rash like- instead of obvious sores and lesions? It definitely doesn’t look like the images on google and isn’t following the timelines for herpes I’ve read. Dr said not to bother with the valtrex at this point and thinks that wasn’t the right treatment – so I stopped that June 5th – and he said he doesn’t do blood draws for HSV1 because most people are exposed as babies and it won’t help us here. He says without vagina lesions ulcers obvious sores he doesn’t recommend swabbing either because theres nothing to swab. He also said if it were herpes it would go away eventually and maybe return but that back to back to back outbreaks would be very rare and feels “almost positive” (he doesn’t like to say 100% positive for anything) it’s not herpes. Do you agree to rule out herpes and that this rash like raw redness and inflammation is caused by the recurring enterococcus and now Klebsiella bacteria? I am dealing with this for months and would love your brain on it. Side note – I am taking all great immune supplements and have been taking them religiously for 30 days – 3000mg (spaced out a day) lysine, vit c, E,A, omegas, NAC, Querectin, Vit D, probiotics, – drink green juice and eat healthy and work out. Nothing seems to be getting rid of it.

Oh, I’m pretty clear that those rather unusual organisms could be causing all these irritations and it sounds absolutely nothing at all like herpes. Glad you had the tongue swabbed so you know that wasn’t herpes either.
People don’t get exposed as babies! That’s so silly, but young people often get herpes from adults kissing them. Babies would get pretty sick with herpes.
To me, this sounds nothing at all like herpes.Terri

Hello Aqualife123 ! Is it possible your symptoms are recurring from engaging in anal sex then back to vaginal without cleaning or changing condoms in between? Just a thought.

Thank you so much- in trying to get to the bottom of this I’ve just been reading everything I can find.
I thought if I was potentially exposed both Orally and genitally at the same time it would explain getting the sores on my tongue at the same time as the vagina irritation because the virus would be active and go back to original spots ? Even tho they don’t present like typical ulcers on lips. Does that tell you anything ?
I also read that hsv at the vagina opening and inner labia wouldn’t necessarily present like sores, lesions, ulcers, or crust over in the handbook and could be more like a rash or irritation? And would HSV1 present less typically at the vagina because it prefers the mouth?
just can’t seem to figure out what’s going on and read one study that suggested having hsv increases risk of bacteria.
Anytime I have googled the symptoms I’m having with the vaginal irritation the results all say herpes and of course none of the images on google look like what I have.
(And no I didn’t have anal sex to the other person who asked)
It just seems like a reoccurring – long lasting – bacteria I can’t get rid of triggered by sex with a new partner.
It’s common for women to get thrown off by a new partner but this is totally nuts so I thought maybe it’s herpes triggered by sex and then just outbreak after outbreak with atypical symptoms. But Presenting both orally and genitally.
But I guess if that were the case it would have gone away at some point? Or the valtrex would have gotten rid of it?
I’m doing all the things and still in rough shape basically since May 9th. I’m going back to the OB/GYN today for another culture having finished my antibiotics and doing hard-core probiotics. But things are still off so either it’s not gone or something else is going on.
Thank you for your expert opinion.

I would take a guess that this is not herpes in all of these presentations. But the swab test is the way to know. Glad you are getting another culture. this sounds really annoying, I’m so sorry you are going through this.
