Hi,
Thank you for this forum as doctors have been very stressful and confusing. I recently met someone and became sexually active (September). shortly after, I got an STI panel, 10/6. All results negative except HSV2 at 1.4 (HSV1 was .08). DR said it’s positive, PA said it’s likely false positive and to retest in 7 weeks. I found out about my results on late November (7 weeks later) and got retested on 12/2. Results came back a week later, .12 HSV1, 1.14 HSV2. PA again said, your numbers are so low, it is likely false positive, test again in 6 weeks.
This stressed me out, so I went to a CityMD on 12/19, where I got tested again. I had a small bump on my thigh, which both the urgent care doctor and my dermatologist diagnosed as folliculitis. The urgent care doctor swabbed anyway (negative) and also took a blood test. Blood test came back HSV1 negative, and they are still working on HSV2.
Prior to this, I have not been sexually active besides 3 separate occasions in 2018 all happening months apart. The person I am with now, is negative as well. What is the likelihood of this being a false positive?
Update: the Quest Test for HSV2 came back as Negative. It was the inhibition test.
There is at least an 85% chance that this is a false positive, if not 90%.
Terri
