      Hi,
I currently live in Canada and I did a recent STI screening for which HSV test was done as well and I was diagnosed with HSV2 via an IGG test that came out as “Reactive”. Apparently Canada does not give an index value for the HSV test. It just says reactive.

I’ve only had 2 sexual partners over the last 6 years. One of them which I had unprotected sex with just once in 2018, reached out to me recently and said they were having a relationship with a person for one year and they were having unprotected sex and she caught herpes which was diagnosed because she had actual blisters and sores. She had no prior symptoms or outbreaks before she started the relationship with the person. The person told her that they tested negative and she didn’t get the virus from him.

In 2018 I have had questionable things that happened to me such as ingrown hairs on my thigh and pus filled boils that appeared on my butt a couple of times. I visited a Dermatologist and they gave me a body wash and all those things never happened again.

I don’t know if this test result is a false positive or if that one sexual partner in 2018 did have the virus then and she gave it to me. I live in Canada and my doctor is not willing to sign off on the western blot test.

My question is: do you think I have HSV2 and how can I get the western blot test done in Canada?

I think it is possible that it is a true positive but without an index value, we can’t really know. We can work to get you the western blot in Canada yes.

If you live near the US you could come here to get it. If not, you should call 206-685-6066 and tell them you live in Canada and ask what is the process to get the blot. You could work with me if you wish to get the test order and then you’ll need to find a lab in Canada that would draw your blood and process it down. But we do this all the time!
