Hi Terri,
I originally got a positive HSV 2 igg result (3.42). A couple months later I tested again and got another positive HSV 2 igg result (this time a 2.85). I finally did the western blot test and it was negative. My doctor is saying because there is mixed results (positive igg and negative western blot), I was exposed to HSV2 but I don’t have the virus floating around in my system. I just wanted to confirm how I stand with this test result. Can I be confident that I am HSV 2 negative from the western blot test result? I am concerned with the “mixed results” comment my doctor made.
Thank you
That’s just wrong. The IgG test is falsely positive because it is picking up proteins unrelated to HSV in your blood and calling it herpes antibody protein when it isn’t. The western blot is the final answer. your doctor is somewhat unfamiliar with HSV testing, I fear.
