Hi Terri,
I have heard all about your excellent work and needed to come here and ask for your guidance.
My ex-partner was the first person I was sexually active with and we used protection. There was an incident where he thought he may have herpes so he got tested. The results came back negative. I had mentioned this incident to my doctor, here in Canada, to see if he thought I needed to be tested. I had told him my partner tested negative and that I have never had any symptoms (and still haven’t to this very day).He said I probably should be tested, so I went through with the test. To my utter shock it came back positive for HSV2. It was an IGG test, he said it was called “Clia”, but he did not have an IGG level to report back to me. I went back to my ex-partner with this news. He was absolutely shocked as well and went back to his doctor to be retested. There was over 7 months in between the two tests he had – the most recent one also came back negative.
As you can see, this is a very confusing situation. If my partner has had two negative tests, and he’s the only person I’ve been with, would I be correct in assuming the result I received for my test is a false-positive?
Thank you for all that you do!
Hmmmmm. I cannot imagine that an index value was not generated, unless it is something we call in immunoblot which does not give an index value. Some labs do not report out the value, but they have it. I think with this test, they do have it. I would push for it. Whatever the index value is, unless it is above 3.5, I think it is a false positive. Unless somehow you were infected at birth or molested and don’t recall it, there is no way for you to have gotten HSV 2. With one partner who tested negative, this herpes antibody should never have been done.
Terri
