Please help I recentely received positive igg 3.1 for hsv 2 but no symptoms never ever, and was negative for hsv 1 (didn’t see results for that one) a year ago I tested negative for hsv2 but my gyno said I did have hsv1 but didn’t say what results were bc said almost everyone has it…was just confused how one test said one thing and the other said something different, could this be a false positive? Should I get another test done at a lab or go ahead and do the wb test????been freaking out, think im making myself sick I also tested negative for all other stds only thing was I did have bv, my partner said he has hsv1 but he hasn’t been tested for hsv2 since we have been together for few years now, please help, could I really have hsv2 or could this be something else I assumed im at low risk but this is just shocking

Yes, you could be infected and it is possible that th testing missed your HSV 1. It is important that your partner be tested also to see who has what. There is a chance of a false positive, but not a huge chance, but certainly worth doing the western blot. We can order that test for you to be drawn at a lab near you.

My partner just got his results back and has a positive hsv1 of about 38 I think and negative hsv2 believe .52 some it’s below the 1.1 how is it possible that I have hsv2. I have only been with this person for almost 3 years I got a negative result a year ago when I was pregnant and recentely got positive 3.1 from a local clinic but not sure what test used but it was 3.1 igg what does this mean help….. I never had any outbreak I just went to the same place he went to for testing should have results tomorrow but if they are indeed positive I just want to know HOW

Your index value falls into what we call the low positive range. You need a confirmatory test to determine if this is a real of a false positive. So if I am reading this correctly, you had two IgG tests: one was negative at 0.52 and the other was positive at 3.1? Anything between 1.1 and 3.5 needs confirmation to rule out a false positive. Our clinic can help with a western blot which is the gold standard of herpes antibody testing. Am I reading your posting correctly?

No u didn’t read it correctly my boyfriend tested negative for hsv .52 was results but positive for hsv one think was 30 some or 3. Sum but I tested postive twice once from specific igg 3.1 and other 2.36 Elisa how is this possible that I have hsv2 (I should probably say I have it since two positive results but still no symptoms/outbreaks)

OK, so you test positive at 3.1 and 2.36 and he tests negative for HSV 2 at .52, correct?
You still need confirmation of your low positive index value for HSV 2. You tested in the low positive range (1.1 to 3.5) twice and the CDC now says results in this range need confirmation (as 50% of the positive test results in this range are false positives.). His HSV value is not relevant here in terms of his likelihood of acquiring your HSV 2 infection, if indeed you are infected. Once you have HSV 2, you will likely never acquire type 1 after that if you have not already. Eighty percent of people who test positive for HSV 2 will deny symptoms of genital herpes so it is not unusual to be infected and not have symptoms IF you are truly infectedTerri
