Confused about ghsv1

Hi Terri,

Over 6 years ago, I was having sex with a guy who used his saliva for lube purposes. Fast forward, I went to the doctor as I saw something I had never seen, and she almost did not properly test me because she told me the sores were so tiny that she could barely see them — I had to literally point out the sore to her.

With that being said, I was tested for hsv1, hsv2 – swab and blood — everything came up negative, but I was told the swab for hsv1 was positive. I don’t have much information because she told me this on the phone and was very lax about it – not even sure what type of swab was used.

However, I am very confused because you said it is extremely rare for this to happen when using saliva as lube. In addition, I did not receive oral sex from him either in this incident and he never performed oral on me the times we were together, so it is narrowed down to directly being from his saliva as lube.

I have not had a sore on my genitals since this isolated incident and my bloodwork has been .9 for hsv1 which is considered negative.

Do you think I need to get a western blot? My whole situation is just extremely confusing.
