› Forums › Herpes Questions › confused on results of my hsv2 results
I went to the doctor and got a full std test including hsv1 and 2. Everything came back negative besides a positive IGG test for hsv2 antibodies with an index score of 2.3 and a “supplemental test” that was negative. i’m not really sure what the supplemental test entails though. My doctor asked if i had ever had an OB and I havent. No symptoms of hsv2 what so ever, and she said “technically” i don’t have it since i never had an OB, which is not true because people can be asymptomatic. If i DO have it i’m not sure sure when i would have acquired it, i know it was after 2018 because that’s the last time i got hsv testing and it was neg at that time. I found out the news about a month ago and i’ve been constantly reading forums on reddit etc and everyone says to get a western blot test. i know my index score is a “low positive” and i’ve heard of peoples tests being false positives when having a low index. i need some sort of closure because it’s stressing me out to the max!! i’m constantly thinking about it and thinking of my future relationships. I’m not sure if i should get another igg test from my gyno or take the leap and order the western blot? i got the igg test in February. i haven’t reached out to any of the people i’ve slept with since 2018 but of course i will if i was 100% positive
hello, i’ve seen some replies to other people after posting mine. Just wondering if you’ll get back to me
There is pretty good agreement between a negative supplemental test and a negative western blot. You could certainly get the western blot for the greatest clarity, however. Doing another IgG test is likely to give you a similar result in the low positive range but you could try it again and if a low positive once more, THEN do the blot. What do you think about that as a plan?
