Hi Terri,
On 10/15 I had protected oral and anal with an extremely sexually active guy who definitely has more then 1 STI. This was my first encounter of this kind. Although he had a condom, here are the more risky things:I put his bare testicles in my mouth, he spit on his hands and rubbed my anus, he spit directly on my anus, he spit on my genitals and rubbed it for a minute with his hands.
The anal sex lasted less than 5 minutes as this is new to me and I couldn’t handle too much. I did notice that the condom might have rolled down just a little.
I have huge anxiety regret over this. I say this because some symptoms may be in my head.
The next day chills (& every days since).
2 nights later soaking night sweats (& every day since, although not soaking every night).
3 or 4 days later mucus in stool and change in bowel habit (everyday since).
6 days later went to clinic & PA says she doesn’t think its an STI. Tested for hiv, hsv, syphills (too early) all negative.
8 days later penis & testicles get real tight. Prickly & burning on scrotum, pubic area and between genitals and thighs (not painful, but irritating & icy/hot feeling when washed. Foreskin covered small area of penis for those days & that area became shinny and red. I thought it was Balanitis.
Also was having abdominal, pelvic pain tingling/numbness on my feet & butt (still butt pain randomly)
15 days tested for hsv, hiv, gh & ch urine. All negative.
Burning around genitals & thigh area lasted for around 3 weeks and would come back randomly after that.
20 days later went to clinic, said everything looks normal. Even the shinny part of my penis. Swabbed for gh & ch. All negative.
Lastly, 4 days later noticed a whiteish bump on my anus. Week & a half later the clinic looked at it, bump was gone. I showed the pictures of it & they didn’t think it was herpes or a wart.Does my encounter sound high risk for herpes?
Do any of my symptoms sound like initial herpes outbreak?
Do herpes outbreak last this long? -

Just some updates to get a clear picture:
I’m 40 & have been std free. I do have hsv1 (35+ on most recent quest test) The person I was with that night (now that I think of it) is at high risk for having multiple stds…(should’ve thought about it prior).
I finally felt a little less fatigue & a lot less sweating at night after around 37 days.
My bowel movement’s aren’t as mucus filled as although not normal looking or amount of times I use to go.
Bump on rectum that I noticed on 11/8 (could’ve noticed earlier) slowly went down, but I still notice like a white spot in area.
My pubic hair & thighs between genitals still feel random burning/itching after 30+ days.
I still have pelvic and glute pain randomly after 30+ days.
So questions:
1. Is testicles in mouth with (possibly sti partner) risky for herpes (he had no lesions btw)?
2. Does hsv2 cause night sweats, chills & fatigue for 30+ days?
3. Does 1 lesion that causes no pain or anything & that is sort of all white that never ozzes or crusts sound like it could be hsv2?
4. The only interaction with my genitals was him spitting on it and rubbing it for less than a minute. Is that risk for genital hsv2?
5. The anal was with a condom and it was probably 3 minutes & less than half in before I said stop from pain. The only issue is I think I remember him rolling the condom up a little when he pulled out. Does that sound like high risk?
6. Hypothetically, If the hsv2 is anal would your genital and thighs burn? I thought it only burn where the outbreak would be?
7. My biggest concern was the “flu like symptoms” although some lasted longer than what I read is normal for an hsv2 outbreak. How do the flu like symptoms usually look for hsv & do mine fit?
The mucus in stool and testicle sensitivity also concern me, but read you don’t contribute testicle pain to hsv.
It’s unfortunate that so many things happened at the same time making hard to know what’s going on.Thanks again Terri!

Not very risk at all, no.2. Does hsv2 cause night sweats, chills & fatigue for 30+ days?
It does not3. Does 1 lesion that causes no pain or anything & that is sort of all white that never ozzes or crusts sound like it could be hsv2?
It does not4. The only interaction with my genitals was him spitting on it and rubbing it for less than a minute. Is that risk for genital hsv2?
No, if any risk, it would be HSV 1 but still very low risk5. The anal was with a condom and it was probably 3 minutes & less than half in before I said stop from pain. The only issue is I think I remember him rolling the condom up a little when he pulled out. Does that sound like high risk?
It definitely does not6. Hypothetically, If the hsv2 is anal would your genital and thighs burn? I thought it only burn where the outbreak would be?
HSV 2 with no lesions and only genital and thigh burning would be very unusual indeed. I don’t think that’s herpes.7. My biggest concern was the “flu like symptoms” although some lasted longer than what I read is normal for an hsv2 outbreak. How do the flu like symptoms usually look for hsv & do mine fit?
The thing is, it would be really unusual to have only flu symptoms with no lesions with a new case of herpes And I believe the condom was definitely your friend here!I think herpes is very unlikely in your situation.

Thanks for your reply Terri!
I had so many symptoms happen over the last 30 days that I’m confused what’s going on with me.
The reason I suspected I might have caught hsv2 is because the most risky part of the encounter (according to Dr. Hansfield it’s “playing with fire”) was the receptive anal & the other persons likelihood of having STIs including HSV2.
Here is my reasoning:2 days later I have a soaking night sweat & fainting spell that night. I could’ve had a fever that caused the night sweat. The next days I’m extremely tired, sleeping in late & taking naps. Some headaches… Doesn’t that fit HSV2 flu like symptoms & time line?
About 4 days later I have trouble moving my bowels. I push & only mucus would come out. After a few days I would have mucus covered stool in the morning then only pass mucus or clear mucus with gas. Doesn’t HSV 2 do that?
I started having foot numbness, shooting pain down legs, lower back pains & back pelvic pains. Aren’t those symptoms of HSV 2 also?
Also, according to Dr. Hansfield where he answered on another forum you guys do together, nights sweats are a symptom of initial HSV 2 Outbreak. Is that incorrect?
Also I heard someone during their first OB say they’re genitals got really tight (as mine did). Is that normal for HSV2?
I fear maybe there was a slight tear during the anal & the rolled down condom was enough to transmit it. Does this logic make sense?
I still have the lower back pelvic pain & the night sweats, but not as painful or drenching as they were. Do you have any idea what else it could be?
I’m scared to test because it could be positive or any false whatever’s. Is it better to just wait for 3 months to test or is it better to keep trying & hopefully getting negatives to be more confident?
Based on my story & symptoms how likely do you think it’s HSV2?
I wish your clinic was still open! I want a consult with you just to show you pics of the original bump. Your site didn’t show any dates available.
Thanks!! -

is Dr Handsfield aware that your anal sex was protected by a condom? That greatly reduces the risk of acquiring anything.
About 4 days later I have trouble moving my bowels. I push & only mucus would come out. After a few days I would have mucus covered stool in the morning then only pass mucus or clear mucus with gas. Doesn’t HSV 2 do that?
HSV 2 can cause people difficulty with urinating and defacting, yes, for some people.I started having foot numbness, shooting pain down legs, lower back pains & back pelvic pains. Aren’t those symptoms of HSV 2 also?
They can be, yes, but i would say 95% of people who report nerve pain but no lesions do not end up testing positive for herpes. Also, according to Dr. Hansfield where he answered on another forum you guys do together, nights sweats are a symptom of initial HSV 2 Outbreak. Is that incorrect?
Yes, that is incorrect. Also I heard someone during their first OB say they’re genitals got really tight (as mine did). Is that normal for HSV2?
I have not had anyone tell me that, no.I fear maybe there was a slight tear during the anal & the rolled down condom was enough to transmit it. Does this logic make sense?
I see what you are saying but I the data we have on condom protection reducing transmission by 96% is cumulative and probably many of those people had condoms roll down slightly. While that data is male to female transmission, I believe that we can extrapolate to male to male anal sex as well.I still have the lower back pelvic pain & the night sweats, but not as painful or drenching as they were. Do you have any idea what else it could be?
I don’t know, no, I’m sorry.I’m scared to test because it could be positive or any false whatever’s. Is it better to just wait for 3 months to test or is it better to keep trying & hopefully getting negatives to be more confident?
I think it is better for you to test at 6 weeks out and see what happens and you can tell me about the results and we’ll decide what to do next. I am assuming that you have a baseline negative HSV 2 to compare to?Based on my story & symptoms how likely do you think it’s HSV2?
I do notI wish your clinic was still open! I want a consult with you just to show you pics of the original bump. Your site didn’t show any dates available.
I am able to view pictures online when I do online consults and I have several appointments open next week – none this week I don’t believe.Terri

Hi Teri,
I went & got tested again. Here’s a recap
6 days out:
Hsv1 38.50
Hsv2 <0.9015 days out:
Hsv1: 31.30
Hsv2: <0.908 weeks out:
Hsv1: 36.20
Hsv2: <0.90A lot of symptoms are gone. Only symptoms still is slight pain in lower back/pelvic, sharp random stab in right butt-cheek, pain in right leg/knee, sometimes pain in bladder/lower abdomen, right testicular sensitivity. I have an appointment to see a urologist.
1.The butt-cheek & leg pains (sciatica) still worry me about hsv, but would it last this long?
2.Also, I still have the inflamed penis gland and daily random burning/itching sensation in my groin & inner thigh area. Not too bad, but I just want it to go away. Should I assume this is fungal & treat OTC or test for fungal infection & get prescription? First PA told me my penis looks normal & “let the body do it’s thing”. There’s been no natural improvement.
3.Would taking any topical creams (antibiotic, anti fungal…etc) affect the hsv blood test?
4.Do you believe a penile swab is more accurate then urine for gonorrhea and chlamydia?
5. What should I do next?
I’ve tested for everything else & so far all negative: hiv, syphills, gonorrhea and chlamydia (swab throat & rectum, urine).
Thanks Teri!

Likely not,no2.Also, I still have the inflamed penis gland and daily random burning/itching sensation in my groin & inner thigh area. Not too bad, but I just want it to go away. With a negative IgG for HSV 2, there is a 92% chance this has nothing to do with herpes.3.Would taking any topical creams (antibiotic, anti fungal…etc) affect the hsv blood test?
They would not.4.Do you believe a penile swab is more accurate then urine for gonorrhea and chlamydia?
No5. What should I do next?
Well, it depends upon how much this is really bothering you and what is bothering you. If you still think you might have herpes, then you should do the western blot. But if you worry is not herpes, then I think you assess how much this is really bothering you and why. Is it physical symptoms, is it in your head that you might still have an STI?TErri
