› Forums › Herpes Questions › Constant outbreaks after giving birth . Suffering
Hello Terri, I have had hsv2 for about 10 years . I was on suppressive valtrex to protect my husband and keep outbreaks away . I’d get 4-5 a year on meds and it was manageable. Last year I had my first child vaginally . Not one outbreak during pregnancy and a very healthy 10lb boy and pregnancy. After my vagina healed from delivery, I’ve had monthly if not weekly outbreaks for the past year on 1000mg of valtrex a day. Sometimes 2000. I also tried monolaurin and lysine for months with no reprieve. I truly believe there is a connection between women’s hormones and this disease. I see a lot of other moms in forums dealing with the same . I am at my wits end and suffering greatly. Being a new mom is hard enough and this on top of it has been absolutely dreadful. Is there any possible way you can help me or guide me to someone that can . This is effecting my mental health in a way I can’t even put into words . Doctors prescribe valtrex and that’s it , seems they’re not very equipped to do much more than that. Many women live with this and suffer in silence because of the stigma , so maybe that’s why health professionals don’t see this as a serious issue . Please help me. And if you can’t please lead me to some one who can . I am not sure how much more I can live like this . I’m trying to be strong for my son. But I’m breaking .
I’m so sorry this is happening to you.
Are you absolutely certain that these are all herpes outbreaks? Have you had any of them swab tested at all?
The next thing you could try is switching to Famvir. The suppression dose is 250 mg twice a day. For some people this works better than Valtrex. How long are your outbreaks lasting? What is the presentation like? Are you on any hormone therapy, like birth control pills?
Terri
