      Hi Terri,
I wanted to reach out since we last chatted a couple of months ago. I did visit a Urologist and he has me taking Oxybutinen. He thought that maybe the nerve pain in my thighs and groin had something to do with a potential bladder issue. I asked If he thought it was herpes related and he said he didn’t think so. It’s been a month and I haven’t really seen any improvement.

I’m completely puzzled and these symptoms just continue on intermittently, but I’m always feeling some kind of pinching pain in my groin, nerve pain down my legs(both) and sometimes I can feel it all the way down to my feet. Every time I think it feels like it’s getting better, it comes back. It seems to be a bit worse after a weekend of drinking alcohol.

Anyhow, I’m a generally healthy, active guy in my mid-40’s. I’ve never had anything last this long in my life.

      Anyhow, here are my questions:

Can these symptoms be an outbreak even though there have never been any lesions?

Has there ever been a study associating IgG test levels and amount of asymptomatic shedding? Can higher IgG mean more/less shedding?

Where does the shedding occur specifically? For instance, can it shed from my thighs/pubic bone area, or just the penis shaft, scrotum and perineum?

If someone gives me oral sex, can they get HSV-2 that way? And would that affect their mouth/lips or would it still manifest as a genital infection?

I was reading that Epstein-barr can be acquired sexually. Have you ever seen this and is it possible my symptoms are from another type of herpes virus like EBV?

      Thanks for you help!

I have no idea if you have herpes or not – you don’t explain in your post.

I think we don’t have firm data on that.

Just the penis shaft, top of the scrotum, perineum and anus

If they gave you oral sex and got HSV 2 orally, it would only be oral

I was reading that Epstein-barr can be acquired sexually. Have you ever seen this and is it possible my symptoms are from another type of herpes virus like EBV?

Well, since the vast majority fo people by age 35 have EBV, I supposed some of them could have acquired this very common virus during sex, but it is not a sexually transmitted infection in the way you are thinking of it.

      Terri
