I am a 42 yr old female and have had HSV-2 for 20 years. Over the past 20 years my outbreaks have been unpredictable. Some years barely any while others 6-8 times a year. I have been seperated from husband for over a year and am not currently sexually active. July 4th my right groin lymph node became swollen and I had an outbreak that was pretty bad. Also had vaginal bleeding that was not related to period. Not sure if I had blisters on cervix that caused that. I have never in all my years have I had swollen lymph nodes. This outbreak has literally lasted the entire month. Blisters will heal but new ones come up immediately. Last Monday went to GYN. Pap normal. Got Acyclovir 400mg which I have been taking 4 times a day. It has been a week and only a little better. Still getting new blisters but they are healing a bit quicker. Not sure what could be causing to last so long and not let up. My triggers are period and if I have a yeast infection. The only thing that is stressful to me is this constant OB. This has never happened in the 20 years I have had this.. My immune system is perfect. I eat clean and exercise daily. No alcohol. Take vitamins and Lysine. Not on birth control pills. Something has made the herp angry and I don’t know what. Any thoughts?

Herpes blisters on the cervix would not cause bleeding, they would simply result in a watery discharge from the vagina. And herpes outbreaks almost never last a full month. I strongly suspect something other than herpes is going on here. As I always say, not everything that happens in the genitals of a person with herpes IS herpes. Have you had a clinician look at and swab these lesions? The fact that you’ve never had lymph node swelling and do now is working against a herpes outbreak at this time.

I say blisters for lack of better word. They are very small and you can’t really see them unless you are looking very hard but I feel them. On the lips of my vagina on the side where the swollen lymph node was and around the anus where I typically break out. It feels exactly like every other OB I have had over the past 20 years. I get the stinging and then a day later a very small opening in the skin will appear. Last a day or so and go away. By the time it goes away another one has erupted in another place. No drainage that I can tell but again too small to notice any. Not sure what else it would be since I know what my OB’s feel like. Also since being on the Acyclovir I have constant tingling/skin crawling feelings in my vagina and down my leg (again same side as lymph node).
I am currently taking 400mg qid. Is this too much and for how long should I continue this dose before I go down to the recommended 400 mg bid? -

Acyclovir 400 four times a day is not the recommended dose though I doubt it would do you any harm. Are you saying that you think perhaps the acyclovir is causing you symptoms? That seems unlikely to me
There is no way to know if these are actually herpes lesions without a swab test. And it is likely to be negative, given you are on medicine. Some people might come off the medicine and wait a bit and get the bumps swabbed, just to see – your call. But know that if you do come off acyclovir to determine if this is herpes, you are potentially more infectious.Terri

I am going to continue the Acyclovir and see what happens. Will take recommended dose of twice daily. This is day 10 and the crawling/tingling is starting to disappear. The small blisters (almost like tiny paper cuts) have not.
I know you feel Lysine does nothing for suppressing herpes. Do you feel any vitamin supplement does? Do you feel like anything aggravates it? Such as hormonal changes, food you eat? -

I am not aware of any supplements or vitamins that are helpful for herpes, no. Or anything that aggravates it. while lots of people have lots to say about this, none of it is confirmed with science.
