› Forums › Herpes Questions › Could HSV1 Be Active in Coconut Oil After Five Months?
Last night, I spent the evening with a woman and used some coconut oil to massage her genitals. The coconut oil came from a jar I believe I used five months ago with the partner who almost certainly gave me HSV1. That partner has it genitally and there’s a strong chance that I massaged her with it and then put my hand back in the jar to get more oil. So there’s a possibility that I had HSV1 on my fingers and then put it back into the jar to get some more. At most 3-4 times. I haven’t touched this oil in five months. I’m aware that HSV1 tends to not live long outside the body and that coconut oil also has some anti-viral properties to it. And now I’m feeling scared I might have infected this woman from last night and that the coconut oil might have acted as a petri dish for the virus. Ugh. I told her before she spent the night that I had HSV1. And we didn’t make out or have intercourse at all. Regardless, I’m going to make sure that I have a massage oil set up that doesn’t require/allow me to put my hands into it in the future.
I wouldn’t give this a second thought – honestly. No virus is going to live in a jar of coconut oil for 5 months – it would have no way to get the nutrients that it needs to survive. Please put this worry aside.
