to start off i’m 21 & i have 2 kids ages 4(born 2017) & 1 (2021) in between those years i’ve gotten tested for stds such as chlamydia, gonoreaha, hiv, syphilis i’ve never really got tested regularly i have before can’t recall the exact year and don’t remember exact results but i know they were negative now 4 days ago i went for a regular std testing because it’s been a year (2021) when i had my daughter that i have gotten tested i thought nothing of it i don’t itch or burn or have any outbreaks yesterday which would be day 3 after i tested i get the results back go over them and i’m confused so i call the doctor she goes over them with me and says everything is negative but she does see that my hsv1 test came back positive for the lgg testing with a value of 2.55 and my hsv2 value is 0.26 both lmg tests were negative with a 0.78 value so i said well what does that me she said it means that i don’t have it now but i could have been exsposed to it in the past and told me not to worry about it that i’m fine and i can continue with my life like i was so i said ok. Then i done research and it says once you get it that it does not just go away so out of confusion i called back the doctor and she said “yes your hsv1 came back positive which is like a cold sore” so again i said we’ll do i need medication what should i do as far as my kids because i have been kissing them everyday even the same day i went to the doctors as well as my mother and so fourth she said again don’t worry about it you don’t have it now so i’m very confused on what’s going on my question is…..
could this be a false positive? and what are the next steps i should take? -

Sorry, I have COVID and have not been working
You most likely truly have HSV 1 infection, the cause of cold sores. This infection could also be genital. If you have not had a cold sore ever in your life, then we can’t know where your infection is, but statistically, it is more likely to be oral. Half the population has HSV 1 infection so it is very common. If you don’t have a cold sore, it is fine to kiss family members as usual. You should know that if you do have oral infection, you could give this to someone who doesn’t already have HSV 1 by giving them oral sex and doing deep passionate kissing.
