So I had symptoms of possible genital herpes on the shaft of my penis. Freaked me out, researched it, then went and got tested. Test results come back as negative for hsv1 and hsv2. Results didn’t even show that it could be possible and that I should take another test. I did a blood and urine test. Then a couple more pimple looking sores popped up and I’m still freaking out. But I’m also recently moved to a new area where the water is hard and have notoriously dry skin (eczema).

It doesn’t make sense that I show symptoms and my blood and urine tests show no positive antibodies. I feel like if I have symptoms and it really is hsv that antibodies should show up in the tests. Like a possible infection at a minimum, but they’re negative.

More red areas have popped up at the top of my pub is hair region so it’s really confusing me.

If I’m having an active outbreak, shouldn’t antibodies show up in my test?

Could this be another skin condition associated with dry skin?

      Could it be anything else?

Blood and urine tests are the wrong tests to be doing. You need a swab test of the lesions. Please go get them swabbed right away

I most certainly will. Why are blood tests the wrong way to go? From my understanding they would at least detect antibodies.

What are other possibilities besides genital herpes?

A blood test is OK but if you have new infection, antibody will not be present yet. That’s why the swab test is preferred.
