I am a male and had unprotected vaginal sex for about 2 minutes with a female that I don’t know very well one week ago. Very stupid decision . She assured me she was std free but no other details provided. I have been worried sick since then about possibly catching a std and especially herpes. I have been checking my pubic region constantly and just noticed a red spot about an inch above my penis in my pubic hair region that is roughly circular and about 2 mm in size. It is a single spot and appears flat against my skin and is painless. It doesn’t seem to have any kind of discharge but I’m worried maybe it is a herpes spot? I don’t think I have any other symptoms at this point. What are the chances this could be herpes and what should I be looking for to confirm or deny that possibility? I’ve looked at a lot of herpes pictures and descriptions online and it doesn’t seem to match real well with the classic symptoms or look like the pictures but I am still very concerned about herpes and also wondering if it could be the start of a syphilis sore? I’d really appreciate any insight you have

If you are concerned that this could be herpes, then I think you should go to an urgent care clinic or somewhere that you can be seen very soon and have a PCR swab test done of the spot. My guessing over the internet isn’t going to be very helpful. However, it doesn’t sound classically herpetic to me, but why guess, right?

So I did go to a clinic and they looked at it and said it looked like maybe it was a mole or something and after examining it didn’t think it could possibly be an STD or offer to take a swab. It doesn’t really look like a mole to me but it’s possible it’s been there before and I never noticed because I never checked myself out very carefully down there before. Given all the information that I’ve told you do you think I should be concerned about having gotten HSV-2? Is 10 days without symptoms a good sign that I’m in the clear? Also do you think this encounter was overall a low chance (1 percent or less) of getting HSV2? I know it was stupid to have unprotected sex and to cheat on my wife.

I’m glad you were seen and they didn’t think that this was an STD. Great news. I think a single encounter with no symptoms in 10 days suggested that a herpes infection here is very unlikely. The encounter was very short and that is also good news in terms of duration of possible exposure

So last night (17 days since encounter) I noticed a small red spot on the shaft of my penis. There is a single tiny sore the size of a pinprick that I hope is just skin irritation. Is it possible it could be herpes given the timing or would you consider the odds to be low given the timing and description? I don’t have anything else that could be considered a symptom that I’m aware of and the spot doesn’t burn or anything but it’s a little sensitive to the touch like any type of irritation. There is no discharge or anything that could be swabbed but I’m still wondering if I should go to a clinic so they can look at it.

This does not sound like herpes to me and timing is way late for a first symptom of a new infection.
