Recently, I had some STD testing done because I was considering being sexually active after a year of inactivity, (two partners since my husband passed in 2010). The results came back negative for all STD’s with the exception of Serum Herpes Simplex Viral which was Abnormal and showed that the antibodies I had for Herpes Simplex 1 & 2 were arepositive. Needless to say I was devastated.
I have had no symptoms and when I phone the doctor her nurse said my values were 24.1 and 12.2. What does that mean? I asked for a Western Blot after doing some research and will go Tuesday. I am 60 years old and have never had any problems…until now. I’m scared to death and quite depressed. After reading; about skin contact, I don’t even want to touch my grandbabies.
My doctor told me that I didn’t have it only, that I had been in contact with someone who had. ???? She said the only way to definitely know if I had it was to swab a lesion. I used to get cold sores in my nostrils as a kid but never ever had one on my lip.
It sounds drastic, but I don’t even want to leave the house.
Those values seem awful conclusive to me since I was reading that a value high than 3 was an affirmation. I’m hopeful that it’s a mistake because about 4 months ago she thought I had cervical cancer because as stated; for a woman of my age, my uterine wall were too thick. Needless to say, after a biopsy, nothing was wrong.
Right now, I just need direction and a better explanation of those values and my chances. I do know that at the moment…I will be abstinent until I take my dirt nap.
Thanking you in advance

How are you getting the western blot? Did you ask UW to send you a kit?
Though your numbers are high, I’ve seen some high numbers not confirming as positive by the blot so I’m glad you are doing this. This test will give you the best results. If it does confirm that you are infected, you need to do reading from accurate sources and get more informed about herpes. You can read the Herpes Handbook on this website for free as a starter. But wait until you get the blot results. Then we can talk more if you like, OK?
This is definitely not the end of your sex life if positive! If it is positive by the blot, you have been infected and are potentially infectious to others – I cannot imagine what your doctor is thinking.Terri
