› Forums › Herpes Questions › Do I need another Western Blot test?
In 2009 I had a conventional blood work-up to test for HSV-2. It came back positive for 1 & 2. My HSV 1 # was 6.7. My HSV-2 # was 3.1. I was advised of the potential for a false positive because I’d never had an outbreak, I had a high # for HSV-1, and my HSV-2 number was relatively low. I then had the Western Blot test done and it came back negative. I recently had another conventional blood work-up done that also came back positive (HSV-1 >5.00, HSV-2 at 2.66). I had 3 relationships between tests with women that were not sexually active. Can this information predict that another Western Blot test would also come back negative? (I’m prepared to order up another Western Blot test but would rather avoid the expense and effort.) Thank you.
So once a person has a false positive on the ELISA, they continue to do so. Unless you feel there is actual risk from one of these new women, I see no need to test with WB again, but that’s your call.
